Fernie Polar Peak – View From the Top

I was in Fernie last weekend shooting for RCR, and woke up to one of those gorgeous bluer-than-imaginable kind of winter days. It just happened to coincide with the opening of their new Polar Peak chair – the main reason I was there. I headed out to the hill first thing on Friday, and with the knowledge the snow would be falling on the actual day of the opening, I managed to get myself to the top of the lift to get some view shots a day early. All I can say is wow! What an incredible vista – and even though I’ve been to Fernie hundreds of times, it was like seeing the hill for the first time. I can’t wait to spend some time in the new terrain with a big dump of snow keeping my skis afloat.

NHL Calgary Flames Fire & Ice Crew – Round 2

For this second round of portraits for the Calgary Flames Fire & Ice crew, I thought it would be fun to head up to the rafters in the Scotiabank Saddledome, since the last round of shots I did were underneath the lower bowl seating area. Lugging the heavy lights up those extra flights of stairs I started to wonder if it was such a good idea. It never ceases to amaze me how much time I spend packing, unpacking, and carrying an ever-growing assortment of gear with me on commercial shoots. Normally I love to travel light, but in commercial work you really need to have all of your kit ready to go (not sitting in a truck in the parking lot).

Lindsay & Mike – Destination wedding at Half Moon resort in Jamaica

On a beautiful, warm & sunny day in November, Lindsay & Mike got married. It was one of those spectacular tropical days with the heat of the tropics, the breeze coming off the ocean, and two kids absolutely in love with each other. I have known Mike for many years, and first met Lindsay a couple years back. He raved about her, and it was no surprise when he told me he had proposed some time later. They’ve done so much together, including travelling all over the place, so when they asked me to shoot a Jamaica wedding, I couldn’t be happier. Not long after putting down the camera for the night, the whole wedding party, guests and all, were in the pool, fully clothed! Topped only by watching Mike & Lindsay launching off a cliff in Negril the following day.

Ashlee & Max – Calgary Fall Engagement Session

I’ve always loved the light you get as the days get shorter and shorter. When I booked the esession with Ashlee & Max, I knew we would get a few hours of warm sun even though we were well into the Calgary fall. I had a blast watching these two and seeing how much love they share for each other. I know their wedding is going to be a wonderful day!

Driving out a couple hundred kilometres from Calgary you get into some pretty amazing country. After having spent much of the last two weeks travelling to shoot in Jamaica & Hawaii, it was a treat to see what makes rural Alberta beautiful in it’s own way. I was hired by a survey company to do some wind turbine shots at a variety of sites, and had a great time simply exploring the rolling fields. I’ll add more as I edit them, but for now, just a few.

Brittany & Jon – married and so very much in love

One of the greatest benefits of doing what I do is getting to work with so many wonderful and creative people. So many couples that I met years ago, I now consider to be close friends. Watching them start their own families, travel, buy & sell houses (Jon Burrows – pro realtor, and apparently part time model), and have babies – all puts a huge smile on my face. I’ve been able to shoot people from all over the world, and it never ceases to amaze me what each of these people have accomplished. I’ve had the pleasure of shooting Britt & Jon over the course of the last four years and the love I witnessed in them exchanging vows at the Springs that fall day is stronger than ever. I love the way they play with each other and have so much fun whenever we meet up.

Jessica & Cody’s Wonderful Calgary Wedding

Jessica & Cody put together a beautiful wedding earlier this fall in Calgary, and I was lucky enough to have them ask me to cover each important moment that day. I caught up with the girls at the studio where hair spray and bobby pins were in no short supply. I always have fun meeting up at the very start of the day – it really adds to the experience and I love being able to share some of the before moments with them as well as the finished product. We headed back to her parent’s house to get ready, and put the finishing touches to the shoes, makeup, and veil. I met up with the guys in the side room of the classic Scarboro United Church, and could see Cody was excited, with only the slightest bit of nerves showing. The ceremony was beautiful – and everybody was smiling as we headed off to do some fun shots around the city. We arrived back at the Al Azhar Shiners to find the place completely transformed. Not a single detail was overlooked and after a delicious dinner, the crew was dancing well into the night. Thank you again Jessica & Cody!
